Kurdish Festival ``Newroz``

Newroz, a Kurdish festival celebrating the ``New Day,`` is held annually at Mitsuike Ground in Akigase Park. The name ``Newroz`` combines ``new`` (NEW) and ``day`` (ROZ) in Kurdish, marking this day with Kurdish music, dance, and cuisine. In Kurdish legend, the tyrant Dehak’s rule symbolizes years of suffering and oppression for the Kurdish people. The story of Kawa, who rose against and defeated Dehak, reflects the Kurdish spirit of resistance against injustice. This tale, dating back more than 2,500 years, is a significant part of Kurdish cultural heritage. During Newroz, various rituals centered around fire are performed to honor Kawa's heroic act, symbolizing overcoming past hardships and embodying hope and change for a new era. Newroz is also a day for Kurds to come together and unite, strengthening their bonds as they celebrate a shared past and a hopeful future. It is a time when Kurds feel a deep sense of cultural identity and solidarity.
